VIGILANCIA AÉREA Y ANTIDRON

Air defence & C-UAS

A mobile dome over the force and over critical infrastructure: early detection, decision in seconds, and layered neutralization.

01.Operational problem

The slow drones, FPVs and propeller munitions that defined the first phase of unmanned warfare are giving way to fast, autonomous vectors employed in salvos. Against them, defense based solely on electromagnetic jammers or GNSS degradation loses effectiveness: a vector with onboard autonomous navigation and EW-resistant links doesn't depend on GPS or an operator. And saturation forces defensive fire channels to be consumed faster than they can regenerate — whether over a moving unit or over a power plant, a port or an air base.

MIRIAD approaches this problem from a position unique in Europe: it develops the threat vector to understand it, and designs the defensive architecture to neutralize it — a multi-layer, mobile architecture — early detection, multi-sensor fusion, active electronic warfare and specialized kinetic effectors — deployed wherever the risk is: from the maneuver column to national critical infrastructure.

02.Systems, components, technology and intelligence involved:

  • NEURON

Miriad Engineering's electronic warfare and SIGINT subsystem; the non-kinetic neutralisation layer (soft-kill), effective when the vector offers an exploitable signal or link

  • CHRONOS

Miriad Engineering's ISR mast and target designator; fire control is integrated into HORN30.

  • HORN30

30×113 mm remote weapon station: the close-in terminal kinetic effect mounted on SENTRY, under human authorisation

  • MER1 / MER2

Miriad Electronics portable counter-drone effectors; MER2 (Drone Hunter) for the dismounted echelon and site protection

  • ARIES C-UAS

    Light platform (1.85 × 3.85 × 1.40 m · 1.5–3 T) for C-UAS support and light airspace protection; the mobile echelon of the architecture.

  • TAURUS RECON

Medium platform (2.20 × 4.20 × 1.65 m · 4–6 T) for advanced reconnaissance: the passive vanguard that sees, classifies and identifies without emitting, with the CHRONOS ISR mast

  • TAURUS XL SENTRY

    Extended medium platform (2.20 × 5.50 × 1.65 m · 5–7.5 T) configured as an airspace surveillance node, with radar for all-weather three-dimensional tracking.

  • C2

Integration of the entire detection–decision–effect chain into a single air picture.

  • STRIKE2 INTERCEPTOR

An evolutionary long-range, fast-closing layer, not the core of the architecture: a class I expendable kinetic interceptor, jet-powered with EO/IR terminal guidance, against fast drones and loitering munitions.

  • MFI VIPER

EW and C-UAS tower for autonomous perimeter protection: the fixed persistence layer for critical infrastructure and high-value sites.

  • TRITON

Naval extension of the C-UAS architecture: counter-drone defence of ports, vessels and critical maritime infrastructure.

03.Operational architecture

  1. DETECT

Passive vanguard, radar in the rear

Two complementary nodes: TAURUS RECON at the leading edge sees, classifies and identifies passively, without emitting, using its CHRONOS ISR mast; TAURUS XL SENTRY in the rear provides the all-weather three-dimensional track via radar. Passive perception is also distributed across the rest of the formation's platforms.

  2. Decide

    Prioritisation under saturation

Classification and prioritization of multiple, simultaneous threats with CHRONOS designation, fire control integrated in HORN30, and fusion at the C2 node, under permanent human supervision.

  3. Act

    Designation and hand-off

Electronic warfare with NEURON as the first non-kinetic layer, when the vector offers an exploitable signal or link; HORN30's close-range kinetic fire mounted on SENTRY itself; C-UAS support from ARIES and MER2 portable effectors for the dismounted echelon and facility protection; MFI VIPER for fixed persistence at critical infrastructure; and, as an evolving long-range, fast-closure layer against fast vectors, the STRIKE2 interceptors. No single layer is the center: the defense is layered and redundant, not a single terminal point.

How they relate · systems and technologies in the mission flow

  1. TAURUS RECON · passive

A vanguard that sees, classifies and identifies without emitting, with the CHRONOS ISR mast. TAURUS XL SENTRY · radar: all-weather three-dimensional tracking from the tactical rear. NEURON · listening: passive electromagnetic detection and SIGINT.

  2. CHRONOS

ISR mast: it detects, classifies and designates multiple simultaneous threats. Human command: it authorises every engagement — the cognitive perimeter in practice.

  3. NEURON · active EW

Soft-kill where there is an exploitable signal or link. HORN30 · 30 mm cannon: close-in kinetic fire on SENTRY, under human authorisation. ARIES C-UAS: support and light airspace protection (hard-kill). MER2 · man-portable: dismounted echelon and facility protection. MFI VIPER · fixed persistence: EW and C-UAS tower on critical infrastructure. STRIKE2 Interceptor · evolutionary layer: long range and fast closure against fast vectors, under human authorisation.

C2 · Command and control Mission software embedded in every platform · a common console at the command post · the entire mission flow travels through a single command and control layer
