Miriad Global presents its 100% Spanish production model to the Spanish Secretary of State for Defence
In her institutional speech, the Secretary of State for Defence Amparo Valcarce highlighted the importance of having Spanish companies able to develop and manufacture sovereign defence technology.
TAURUS is the group’s first unmanned ground vehicle. It has been designed and built in Spain with sovereign technology to meet the new operational needs of the Armed Forces.

Madrid, 8 May 2026. – MIRIAD Global, a Spanish defence industrial group specialising in the manufacture of unmanned systems, advanced subsystems and mission-critical electronics, today publicly presented its industrial capabilities and the prototype of its TAURUS unmanned ground vehicle. The event was chaired by the Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce García.
The event took place at MIRIAD’s new prototyping plant in San Fernando de Henares.
Attendees included the Government Delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín Aguirre, the Regional Minister for Digitalisation of the Community of Madrid, Miguel López-Valverde Argüeso, the Director General of CDTI, José Moisés Martín Carretero, and the heads of DGEID and DGAM, Lieutenant General Miguel Ivorra Ruíz and Admiral Aniceto Rosique Nieto. Other state authorities, members of parliament, senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, representatives of the Armed Forces and figures from business and academia also attended.
The presentation of MIRIAD Global’s capabilities and the unveiling of TAURUS, the group’s first autonomous system, designed and manufactured entirely in Spain with 100% sovereign design authority, comes at a time of accelerating demand for national defence capabilities. The Spanish Government has approved the Industrial and Technological Plan for Security and Defence and the Deep Tech Spain Strategy 2026- 2030. Both place autonomous systems and robotics among the country’s ten priority technology areas.
The TAURUS vehicle and the opening of MIRIAD’s new plant in San Fernando de Henares, which joins its other production centres in Madrid, Málaga and Getafe, reinforce MIRIAD Global’s commitment to developing Spain’s defence industrial and technological base.
Everything within one industrial group
In her closing speech, the Secretary of State for Defence, María Amparo Valcarce García, stated that “companies like Miriad show that Spain has an innovative ecosystem capable of developing sovereign technology, creating skilled jobs and strengthening our industrial and technological autonomy in a strategic field such as defence”. Antonio Navarro, Executive Chairman of MIRIAD Global, explained that TAURUS is the first tangible result of the industrial model the group has been building since its beginnings. “We wanted to bring together in a single industrial group the whole journey, from knowledge, R&D and manufacturing to the delivery of the product itself. That is our approach. We connect a good idea with its industrialisation and scalability to turn it into a real capability at the service of the State and the Armed Forces.” Navarro also stressed the importance of this kind of development for the country. “If every component of unmanned ground systems can be developed and manufactured in Spain, the country gains industrial capacity, skilled jobs and lasting strategic knowledge.”
TAURUS is a medium-sized, multi-purpose autonomous ground vehicle with ballistic armour and 6×6 drive. It has a modular architecture that is interoperable with national, European and allied systems, and runs on proprietary artificial intelligence. This allows it to be integrated into different operational environments and adapted to the needs of each armed force or mission. In its RECON version it is designed for reconnaissance and surveillance missions. It is complemented by other ground systems from the group, such as ARIES and RHINOS, which can operate alongside it as a swarm or carry out specific missions, all coordinated through the group’s own command and control software.
The new San Fernando de Henares plant
MIRIAD Global’s new facility in San Fernando de Henares will serve as a prototyping centre for autonomous systems and a production hub for onboard subsystems. It joins the centres the group already operates in Madrid (artificial intelligence and robotics), Málaga (software laboratory) and Getafe (critical electronics for defence systems).
The group organises its activity into three complementary divisions. Miriad Engineering focuses on critical subsystems for optronics, radio frequency and mission control software. Miriad Systems handles the design, integration and industrialisation of robotic platforms. Miriad Electronics was created through the integration of Insyte, a company with four decades of experience in critical electronics for the country’s main defence programmes.
About MIRIAD Global
Miriad Global is a Spanish defence industrial group, in which Funditec holds a stake, specialising in unmanned systems, advanced subsystems and mission-critical electronics. It has its own technology and industrial capabilities in design, engineering, software, manufacturing and electronics. It applies them both to the development of complete systems and to the supply of critical subsystems and electronics to third parties in national and European defence programmes. With centres in Madrid, Málaga and San Fernando de Henares, and industrial agreements in Catalonia and the Basque Country, its activity focuses on land, air and naval autonomous platforms. It also covers onboard artificial intelligence, mission computers, control electronics and other mission-critical systems. Its industrial model is based on the progressive integration of complementary production and technology capabilities. The aim is to strengthen an industrial and technological base in Spain with a real capacity to deliver major defence programmes.
