CHRONOS

Cognitive electro-optical sensor

A stabilized, multimodal head that fuses optical, thermal, laser and acoustic sensing in the sensor itself, with onboard AI: it turns cues into a classified, prioritized track, with a fully passive detection chain.

Overview

CHRONOS is Miriad Engineering's cognitive electro-optical sensor: a stabilised, multimodal head that combines a high-definition day camera, dual-band thermal imaging, a laser rangefinder and an acoustic channel, with onboard artificial intelligence to fuse those signals within the sensor itself.

Unlike conventional electro-optics (which normally look where an operator, a radar or a command and control system tells them to), CHRONOS turns acoustic, thermal and optical cues into a tactical track: it detects the threat, steers its line of sight towards the likely point of contact, classifies it, tracks it and prioritises it onboard.

Its name comes from the Greek χρόνος, time, because its main function is to compress the response cycle: to detect earlier, steer the line of sight towards the threat, classify it and deliver a useful tactical track while there is still room to decide and act.

Integrated sensors:

  • Optical

    HD DAY

High-definition day camera for visual identification and discrimination.

  • Infrared

    DUAL THERMAL

Two thermal bands for detection and tracking in low visibility and at night.

  • Telemetry

    LASER

    Laser rangefinder

  • Passive

    ACOUSTIC

Acoustic channel that provides cues when the threat is not yet visible.

Minimal electromagnetic signature

  • Emits no radio frequency and keeps its electromagnetic signature to a minimum: it can operate in environments saturated with electronic warfare.
  • Covers the gap left by RF-based systems when the threat doesn't radiate: a fiber-guided drone, a silent observer, or a threat with no control signal.
  • That threat still leaves a thermal, visual and acoustic signature — and that's where CHRONOS finds it.

From image to track

  • CHRONOS doesn't just hand the operator an image: it hands over a localized, classified, prioritized track. Its architecture is built to maintain track continuity when observation is interrupted or degraded by terrain, smoke, thermal noise, low visibility or momentary saturation. That reduces the need to manually reconstruct the contact and compresses response time at the exact stage where human reaction is already starting to run late.
  • Against fast drones, low-altitude observers or multiple simultaneous attacks, the first thing CHRONOS resolves is where to look. From the first cue, it points the identification optics at the threat and helps discriminate which contact demands priority attention, without relying solely on a radar or an operator to call the bearing. That edge intelligence reduces false alarms, cognitive load and dependence on expert operators.

Employment and hand-off

CHRONOS delivers identification, localization, tracking and tactical hand-off to whichever element the operator chooses to employ: a weapon station, a kinetic effector, a laser effector, an RF jammer or a command post. Neutralization always remains under the operator's authorization and within their chain of command.

Integration and mounting

CHRONOS mounts wherever it's needed: on the retractable mast of reconnaissance vehicles, on fixed stations protecting bases, critical points and borders, and aboard manned or autonomous platforms.
