Funditec launches Miriad Global, a new player in the Spanish defence industry

The new company industrialises autonomous and critical electronics solutions developed at Funditec and brings its own industrial capacity with production in Spain.

The project builds on Eris Engineering, in which Funditec has taken a majority stake. It brings in an engineering firm with seven years of experience in defence.

Its launch strengthens the European industrial base at a time of high production demands and growing demand for autonomy and critical electronics.

Madrid, 20 November 2025. – As Europe accelerates the consolidation of its own capabilities to build a robust industrial base in sensitive areas, defence independence has become a priority. Strategic risks, the lessons of the war in Ukraine and a clear political will to strengthen autonomy are driving the development of AI-based autonomous systems. They are also driving the need for players able to develop and produce complete solutions within the country.

In this new paradigm, Funditec has taken a majority stake in the engineering firm Eris Engineering. The transaction links applied research, which remains within Funditec, with an already consolidated industrial base in Spain. This structure gives rise to Miriad Global, a Spanish company designed to strengthen the country’s industrial capacity in critical areas.

The combination of the technological capability developed at Funditec and Eris’s industrial experience gives Miriad a solid base to turn its own developments into production-ready solutions. The result is an organisation prepared to deliver continuity, reliability and delivery capacity in a highly demanding sector.

A structured model to take solutions from design to production

Miriad organises its activity into two complementary business lines. The first is Miriad Engineering, which continues Eris’s activity. It specialises in critical subsystems such as weapon stations, mission electronics, optronic subsystems and vision and perception software, which are integrated into the group’s own systems or into third-party platforms. The second is Miriad Systems, dedicated to industrialising the autonomous vehicle concepts created by Funditec Defence based on needs identified by end users. In these systems, the advanced algorithms developed by Funditec Intelligence enable “autonomy-first” designs, in which artificial intelligence governs the operation of all subsystems. This approach ensures technical consistency and full control of the value chain.

“Our goal is to build a leading player that helps Spain have its own solutions in sensitive areas. We are moving forward on a solid industrial base, with the vision and determination to contribute to sovereign capabilities,” says Antonio Navarro, Executive Chairman of Miriad Global.

The work centres in Madrid, Málaga and San Fernando de Henares, with a team of more than 40 specialists, ensure stable production activity. They also leave room for expansion through co-manufacturing agreements with other companies.

To support this roll-out, Miriad is working on an industrial plan to grow its workforce to

100 professionals in 2026 and drive investments of around €5 million. These funds will go towards strengthening production capacity, accelerating in-house developments and consolidating agreements with industrial partners. The aim is to increase scale and take on larger programmes.

Miriad’s solutions are designed to be integrated into operational platforms and adapted to different requirements. The company prioritises technical compatibility and compliance with shared standards, including NATO interoperability frameworks. This makes it easier for Miriad to take part in national programmes and multilateral projects within Europe.

“Working in coordination with the research carried out by Funditec and with the engineering and manufacturing capabilities we bring together at Miriad allows us to approach solutions from a complete perspective. We aim to support institutions with capabilities that respond to real needs and bring stability to an ecosystem that demands reliability and long-term vision,” says Javier Robles, Managing Director of the Miriad Systems business line.

With this approach, Miriad Global joins the national effort to consolidate high-level technological capabilities. Its commitment to sovereign technology, its own intellectual property and manufacturing in Spain helps strengthen the country’s industrial autonomy and align its capabilities with European operational standards.

About Miriad

Miriad Global is a Spanish technology and industrial company in the defence sector, founded in 2018 and majority-owned by Funditec. It specialises in autonomous systems, sovereign artificial intelligence and robotics for defence, and industrialises autonomous infrastructure designed together with end users. The company was created when Funditec took a majority stake in the engineering firm Eris Engineering. This links applied research, which remains within Funditec, with a consolidated industrial base in Spain. With centres in Madrid, Málaga and San Fernando de Henares, Miriad combines in-house engineering and manufacturing and works in coordination with Funditec to deliver systems ready for institutional adoption. Its technology is designed on open architectures, is aligned with NATO interoperability frameworks and strengthens the country’s technological sovereignty.
